Childhood Memories Fueling a Business
When asked about their fondest LEGO memory, Indelicato recalls being gifted a large red suitcase filled with loose bricks and minifigures. Coming from a big family, the hand‑me‑down treasure "was probably more LEGO than I ever had before" and fueled endless imagination. Castle and Space themes became favorites as the LEGOs were reconstructed and reimagined. This early exposure to unlimited possibilities for play was the core memory guiding them down the path to operating two Bricks and Minifigs locations; now helping other families pass along their collections to new builders.
"We hand out stickers like candy at Halloween"
"Stickers are fun, and kids love getting them. Recently we added and started selling magnets... we see them all the time on cars, laptops and phones now."
A big part of Bricks & Minifigs' marketing strategy involves freebies and collectibles. At birthday events and every day in the store, Richmond's team hands out die cut holographic stickers. These eye‑catching logo stickers are printed on high‑quality holographic material and coated with a glossy, UV‑resistant finish. Computer‑guided blades cut each sticker to the exact shape of the store's blue and yellow LEGO brick-shaped logo.
Stickers aren't just given away to never be seen again; they become mini billboards. By featuring the shop's branding on customers' water bottles, laptops and car windows, the store reinforces its presence around town. As customers requested more, die cut magnets of the store's logo joined the lineup and quickly became popular.
Buying, Selling & Trading: A Unique Retail Experience
Like every Bricks & Minifigs location, the Richmond store is built around a buy/sell/trade model. Visitors can bring in LEGO sets, minifigures or bulk bricks for evaluation; the team then discusses valuation based on condition, demand and completeness. Customers can choose to receive cash or store credit to purchase that elusive item they've always wanted. The shop aims to offer the largest selection of sets, minifigures and bricks in Richmond, making it a destination for both casual fans and serious collectors.
The owners enjoy the stories that come with each collection. Many sellers are parents clearing out their adult children's childhood bricks. Hearing about how families played together and preserved their sets is a highlight; staff members are grateful that people choose to sell to them and strive to honor those memories.
