Artwork & Templates

PureButtons Customizer art tool is offered free of charge to our customers in an effort to make ordering easier. We make no claim that it should replace professional image editing software and still believe that creating artwork using our templates is the ideal method for custom art creation.

Copyright ownership

You agree and confirm that you own the copyright on any uploaded images that you send to Pure Buttons for printing. Any stock designs or fonts provided by PureButtons for use in the customizer tool are fair-use or royalty free. You may not print or reproduce images that you do not hold the rights to. You assume all liability for the content of designs you customize and order from PureButtons.

Facebook and Instagram Connections:

The art tool feature gives the option to connect to your personal Instagram and Facebook accounts. These connections are established via approved methods created by Instagram and Facebook and use secure connections ensuring user data safety. To use the art tool with these services you must log in and approve the connection between your account and the art tool. After you have submitted your custom design, you may disapprove and remove the connection in your account. This will not affect the custom design that you have submitted, however future designs would require a new connection approval.

PureButtons does not have access to your Instagram or Facebook account login credentials or content. We do not keep or store your personal information or photos from these services.

Digital Proofs:

The PureButtons Art Tool provides a digital proof which serves as an estimation of what your printed product will look like. PureButtons makes no guarantee that your order's colors or print clarity will match the proof you receive from the art tool. Computer and phone screens often provide a greater resolution and brighter colors than print can achieve. If color adjustment and reprints are required, a discount on the reprint may be offered at our discretion.

You are responsible for ensuring that your custom design will be readable / discernible when printed at size. The customizer tool will often display your design larger than it will be in-hand when printed. Make sure your fonts and designs will be readable / discernible when printed at actual size.

Upon completing your order you will be presented with a unique URL where you can view and share your digital proof. This URL will not be made public by PureButtons but will be accessible to anyone that has the URL by any means. You are solely responsible for this proof URL's traffic.

Editing Designs:

Once you have submitted your design to the cart, you cannot edit your custom design. If you notice an error in your design after finalizing the design but before checking out, you must delete and recreate the design or we can help make edits to your design for a small art fee. Please email or call us with your concern before submitting your order.

Your artwork must be created for our templates. To ensure proper printing, make sure any important artwork is kept within the 'safety zone', which is indicated on the template.

Do you offer digital proofs/mock ups?

Yes, we do offer digital proofs! Just select the option when placing your button order(s). The charge is $10.00 per design. Proofs will be emailed once they are completed. Please allow up to 48 hours for a proof to be sent to you. We must get your response back through email in order to send your job to production.

Our turnaround guarantee begins upon approval of your digital proof. Please be prompt with your replies to reduce production delays.

This is the best way to make sure your design is ready to print! Below is an example of our digital proofs.

All of our button-based products have edges that many people utilize for messages and information like urls, phone numbers, email addresses, or anything else you want on the button, but not on the front. This text can wrap around the entire edge of the button.

RIM TEXT ORIENTATION will be reversed from how it is displayed on our digital proofs and in the customizer tool. This is due to the 3d nature of the product and how the design wraps around the products.

Some of our customers also use the rim text area for a unique design around the rim. How you use this space is up to your imagination!

Since custom diecut button packs are a completely unique product, you don't need to create your backer card artwork on a template. Just make sure your backer card artwork follows the guidelines below:

1) Add a 1/8" Bleed. This is artwork that extends past the cutline and will be discarded after we cut your card to shape. It is required for a seamless product.

2) Add a 1/8" Safety Area inside the cut line. No important text or graphics should fall inside your Safety Area.

3) Show us your cutline with a 1px stroke in a separate 'Cut Line' layer.

4) Show us your button placement in a "Button Placement" layer, and use the button placement icons that we provide. Do not resize our icons. (see below)

5) Use our templates for all of your buttons included with the pack.

These button placement icons are representations of the buttons on your backer card artwork. They will let us send this data directly to our digital diecutting machines, to give you a very precise cut that falls right where you want it. Click to download.

Many designers who are new to preparing artwork for CMYK often make the mistake of setting the CMY (cyan, magenta, yellow) values at 0%, and the K (black) value at 100%. This is not sufficient ink coverage to offer a true ‘Rich Black’.

For a dark, rich black, you must include amounts of CMY to build up a base layer of pigment for the black to appear ‘true’. Otherwise, with 100K black only, you get a sort of dark gray, or ‘milky’ black values.

Setting type and thin detailed black:

When setting small type in black on white, 100K black is preferred because the eye does not notice the lighter shade, and there are no other colors to present issues with slight registration misalignments.

Bold Graphics:

That being said, with large areas of black, and bold graphics, you must use a rich black to ensure solid dark print. We recommend a standard rich black value of 60/40/40/100. You will find other combinations suggested when searching rich black on the web, but almost anything more than 0/0/0/100 will provide better results than 100K.

Too Much Ink!!! Registration Black

If you use 100/100/100/100 you’re in for trouble, as this is too much ink coverage and you will more than definitely smear / lose detail. A good rule of thumb is that you do not exceed 240 when adding up all of your values. The default for photoshop #00000 black is actually 75 / 68 / 67 / 90, which adds up to 300, and is usually pretty reliable, but for tiny details in large blocks of black ,you may have some issues with clarity.

Below is an example of how the two kinds of black appear printed next to each other, even if you can’t tell it from the preview you see in photoshop / illustrator.

Make sure all your blacks match!

It can happen where you are designing something and don’t realize it but the black values of different pieces of your design do not match. This will be noticeable when you inspect the printed design closely, as the ‘richer’ values will appear darker, maybe not at first glance but upon closer inspection. Your computer monitor is not as reliable as the color picker tool. As a designer you must be aware that your black values should match unless you intentionally are setting different values for effect.

If you place an order and need to update the art file you submitted with your order. Please IMMEDIATELY email art@purebuttons.com with your order number as the subject line. Attach your new art file. Please note that we do not guarantee that emailing in art after placing an order will mean that your replacement art will be used. If we print your order artwork before you get us a replacement we do not offer reprints unless a new order is made. It is up to you to make sure the artwork you submit with your order is accurate and finished.

Our NEW custom button packs templates feature a place for each unique button design right on the same file. Grouping all the designs into one file allows you to easily place an order with our convenient checkout system. It also lets you show us exactly how you'd like your custom buttons positioned on your packs.

Custom Button Packs

In the Layers panel, you'll see separate hidden layers for a 'proof' view that masks off the bleed on all of your designs.

You also have editable rim text layers for you to modify to fit your design. This is simply text on a round path that you can use to add custom text on the rim of each button.

The rest of the layers are the standard template layers you'd find on our custom buttons templates. Flatten your artwork on the "Your Artwork Here" layer for artwork submission. PSD or AI files are preferred when submitting artwork for custom button packs.

Clothing Magnets

Clothing magnets are an alternative to our pin-back custom magnets. These high quality magnets hold to clothing without the need for a pin to go through your clothes. They utilize a removable magnet bar back, seen below, and are great for nametags and events where you need to be concerned about minimizing damage to the wearer's garments.

Our clothing magnets can also stick to any metal surface, although this is not their primary function and their magnetic hold is stronger when used as advertised to hold on to cloth.

Printable Product Size Reference Sheet

If you would like to see what our sizes look like in person, print this reference sheet with scaling OFF. It is important that you print this PDF at full size to ensure that the shapes you see on the page are the right size.

Do not scale this document to full page or print it at any size other than actual size. Scaling preferences can be found in your print options dialog box. Sometimes hidden by an "advanced settings" or "preferences" option.

Often, people ask us what size our products are. While they are all titled by size in inches, 1″ round buttons, 1.25″ Round buttons, etc, people still don’t have a good grasp on what this means in the real world. How do these things look in-hand?

We have mocked up examples of what our products look like next to a perfectly to-scale US quarter. This ubiquitous coin should be on hand for most of our customers in USA. See the image gallery below and get an idea of what size is best for you.

For our Canadian friends, the US quarter is just 0.38mm larger than the Canadian quarter, so you’re looking at roughly the same comparison.

For another comparison we have mocked up some of the products that are similar in size to the top of a standard 12oz soda can.

Looking for something new? Try our soft touch matte finish! Our standard glossy finish is great for most uses, but if you're looking for something different, try our soft touch matte finish! It gives the appearance of almost no finish, but softens your colors a bit, and your button face will be soft to the touch. Colors are lightened by this finish, especially dark colors, and color saturation is slightly reduced by this finish. Our soft touch matte finish is great for earthy or gentle designs. Remove the glossy flash and opt for something closer to a 'raw' look with this new finish option.

Get your shine on! Metallic finish option now available for all of our custom products! Just select “Yes” for the “Acetate Finish” option at checkout.

For a small upgrade fee, we will print your design on clear acetate rather than white paper. This allows the metallic button body to shine through your design. In turn your design will have a metallic brushed steel look in any places that are ‘white’ in your design.

Light to mid-tone colors will also appear metallic but could look more washed out than when printed on white, as they may become lost against the metallic background.

Black will block the metallic shine completely.

This option will darken your overall design significantly.

Clean vector graphics with lots of high contrast and rich colors and white space will produce the best results.

For a small upgrade fee, we will wrap each pack in a crystal clear mylar bag! This bag not only protects your packs from wear and tear during transportation and handling, it also allows you to label them for resale easily. Note: If you choose to put a hanger hole in your backer card, this bag WILL cover the hole.

Turnaround & Shipping

A lot of our customers are confused when it comes to figuring out the difference between Turnaround Time and Shipping Time, so we thought we'd try to clear it up with a visual representation.

Turnaround Time

This is the time that it takes for us to create your product from the moment you submit your order. Our standard turnaround is 1-3 business days for most orders. Larger orders may require more production time. If you order a proof, this turnaround begins when you approve the proof.. You have the option of guaranteeing and speeding this process up by ordering a RUSH UPGRADE.

Rush Turnaround Pricing:
STANDARD: Usually ships in 1-3 business days ($0.00)
RUSH: Ships in 1 business days (+125%)
RUSH: Ships in 2 business days (+65%)
RUSH: Ships in 3 business days (+50%)

For instance, if I ordered 50 1" round buttons ($12.00), and added 3 Day Rush (50% of my product cost, $6.00), my buttons would cost 18.00 and it would go in the mail 3 days from when I ordered, like shown in the calendar below:

This is the time that it takes for UPS to take your custom products from US to YOU. This is the second way you can control the speed of receiving your order. Choose faster shipping to get your products even quicker.

Remember, we are open Monday-Thursday 8AM-8PM EST and Friday 8AM-4:30PM, and we're closed on the weekends, so weekend orders or requests may be processed on the following Monday.

If your order is placed before 11AM EST, the first production day is that day. Orders placed AFTER 11AM EST will be processed on the following business day.

If you need something even faster than advertised, call us and we'll gladly listen to your needs and try to work something out!

PureButtons does not guarantee ship times. Delays by the mail carrier due to poor weather, accident, mis-routing, holidays, or weekends are a possibility. We insure/declare all shipments for their actual “per piece" value. If you are sending any shipments internationally, your package recipient will be required to pay duties/taxes by their nation’s customs in order to obtain possession of their shipment. This charge is not determined by Pure Buttons ® or UPS/FedEx/USPS, but by the recipient country’s government. Pure Buttons ® handles international shipments as a courtesy to our customers and assumes no liability for these charges, nor are we able to predetermine or estimate these fees ahead of time. They are calculated by customs upon arrival of the package. If you have any questions about this, you should contact your desired shipping company or the customs department for the country you intend to ship to.

If your tracking number says "Delivered" but you cannot find your package and you're certain nobody has moved it or accepted it for you, you must contact UPS / USPS immediately.

Once an order leaves our facility, it is under the care and responsibility of UPS / USPS. Any missing deliveries must be reported to UPS / USPS. They can provide information on a refund for the value of the package. PureButtons is not responsible for any missing or lost orders. Your tracking number will give you an estimated delivery date. A signature is not required for delivery. You must be available to receive this delivery personally, if not you risk your delivery being lost or stolen.

If you feel that there may be issues receiving your order in person, please contact UPS / USPS with the tracking number to schedule a pickup at a local UPS / USPS store.

We ship to USA Addresses via UPS Ground. Depending on what part of the country you are in, shipping time is anywhere from 1-5 business days. AK / HI addresses also are available for UPS ground quotes but often the cost of these shipments may be cheaper at the 2-day rate. Check the various rates presented during checkout for the best choice for you.

Curious about Ground Shipping times? This map is a good estimate on what you can expect when ordering our cheapest shipping option. All orders ship via UPS from our facility in Medina, OH.

Remember, only 2 day shipping or faster is 'guaranteed' by UPS and if you're on the edge of one of these zones, round up.

We now offer USPS First Class and Priority Mail shipping options along with our UPS Shipping options. USPS First Class shipping is available for light weight orders and all other shipping methods are available for all orders. Orders & Returns

Refunds due to customer errors will not be issued. This includes, but is not limited to: typos, incorrect file submission in accordance with our specifications, duplicate orders, misunderstandings of turnaround time stated on our Turnaround or FAQ page, slight color variances within four color (CMYK) industry standards for pleasing color, disregard for cutting and folding tolerances within stated limits on the website, undeliverable packages/3rd delivery attempts and orders returned without an RMA. Other errors that customers are responsible for include blank submissions, borders incorrect image orientation, crop marks, hard to read text and images, missing logos, mini images, images that are not full bleed, colors that are out of gamut, designs that are outside of our stated safe zone and pixelated files. No returns accepted. We will replace damaged or faulty product within 30 days of delivery.

You can cancel your order at any time BEFORE we print your design. HOWEVER please note that this could be within moments after ordering. Purchasing help & proof gives you a buffer time between placing an order and us printing your design. If you have decided to cancel your order before approving the proof this gives you more time to let us know. Please do not place an order with us until you are sure you want what you're ordering.

If you purchased help & proof and after receiving a proof from our art team, you decide to cancel, we will refund your order minus the help and proof fee ($10).

After we have printed your design, a refund is no longer an option.

Amazon Pay

Our new Amazon Pay integration offers our fastest checkout experience yet!

1) Simply choose Amazon Pay during checkout and you'll be presented with an Amazon.com popup where you can securely login to your Amazon.com account.

2) Once logged in, you will be forwarded to a one page checkout where you can select from your approved Amazon addresses and payment options. Your default Amazon shipping and payment choices will be preselected.

3) Next you'll confirm rush processing if you require it, and a shipping selection from the dropdowns.

4) All that's left is to click the Finalize Order button and you're done!

If you have an existing PureButtons.com account that uses the same e-mail address as your Amazon account, choosing Amazon Pay will merge your new PureButtons orders into your existing account.

If your Amazon.com account uses a different e-mail address than your PureButtons.com account, you can change your Amazon.com login email address in your Amazon account settings to match.

Once your Amazon.com account login e-mail matches your PureButtons.com login e-mail, you may choose Amazon Pay and the new orders will merge into your existing PureButtons account.

While using our standard checkout process, Amazon Pay is an option among the other credit card and paypal payment options. Choosing this option will launch a secure Amazon.com popup window asking you to login to your Amazon account.

Once logged in, a widget will load on the payment screen containing your preselected amazon payment methods. You may select from these cards or add a new card to your Amazon.com account from this widget.

All other order details will be as you've selected them during checkout. Only your payment method will be selected from Amazon when using this Amazon Pay method.

You may then proceed to checkout as usual and the card selected in your Amazon.com account widget will be billed for your order.
